A Critique of Debi Pearl’s book, Created To Be His Help Meet

For several years an article has circulated on the Internet entitled among other things, -Slave Labor.- The list was purported to be an extract from a high school Home Economics textbook from 1954. In summary, the girls were taught to be good housewives by preparing their homes, their supper meal, and their children for the arrival of their hard working husbands. -Try to make your home a place of peace and order where you husband can relax,- is the final point. Treat him like a king, and view yourself as his servant, it was saying.

Women who agree that this sounds like slave labor would NOT appreciate the instruction Debi Pearl presents in her book, Created to Be His Help Meet. Indeed, the author was aware that some of the material would not be welcomed in today’s western culture and was tempted to leave it out. Michael, her husband told her, -If God thought it was important enough to inspire it as part of His Word to us, then you should include it-.

Herein is the first and great quality of this book. It is based on Scripture without fear of man, or other women, or of being called -old fashioned’. Debi did a thorough study of the role of women in the Bible to prepare for this book. It is based on the design principle, that God created woman unique with an important role in society. The role for married women is to do all she can to make her husband a success. Attempting to take on the man’s role will result in damage to her marriage, her children, and herself.

About this book the author states, -It took four years, thousands of hours, many tears, revisions and distractions, but I finally finished my book. I had no idea God had so much to say to us ladies until I began going through God’s Word verse by verse, writing the different sections of Created to Be His Help Meet-.

In a nutshell, the book says, wives, stop trying to change your husband into what you want and start letting God change you into the woman He wants. The result will often be, surprisingly, that God will use you to change him. In other words, if you treat him as a king, he may well treat you as his queen. However, this dare not be her reason for wanting to respond correctly.

Every troubled wife feels she is the exception to the principles presented in such a fundamental book. The author does not ignore these and gives many illustrations and answers questions from various difficult marriage situations. She also deals with the difficult subject of sex in a clear but discrete way.

The fact that, at this writing, the book is in its 8th printing in four years is a strong endorsement. Though some churches have even banned it (!), the letters to the Pearls’ No Greater Joy Ministry telling of marriages that have been transformed as a result of reading and applying this book, speak volumes about its genuineness as a tool for women to see themselves as God designed them, not as inferior or superior, but as unique.

Debi Pearl is the author of multiple best sellers including Created to Be His Help Meet and Listen To My Dream. You can find out more on her website.

Wholesale Sunglasses For The Fashionably Frugal

Even though man is born with a pair of eyes with a nose in between, there is no reason why the individual should constrain him- or herself to a single pair of eyewear. Fast becoming part of the ensemble, an attractive pair serves to complement and complete the overall look. It is thus not a wonder that establishments offering wholesale sunglasses become regular haunts for fashion fanatics out on a hunt for accessories. Frames and lenses in accordance to the rainbow spectrum, designs come fast and furious to attract clientele in picking them up for a sunny day at the beach or an adrenaline rush at the race tracks.

Wholesale fashion sunglasses have certainly breached the conventional rule regarding a pair being sufficient to serve all needs. Why settle for the traditional cut when there are myriad more to adorn ones face? Rather than being mistaken as part of a surveillance team attempting to blend into the crowd with their government issued eyewear, there is certainly just cause for butterfly cuts with embedded crystals to pick up a sparkle or two. Others who are secretly nurturing a dream to fly across oceans and lands may best settle for the look of an adventurer by donning aviator glasses with a white silk scarf around ones neck.

As this form of eyewear is meant to ward off dust, dirt and dazzling sunlight, these do not constitute the sole purpose of putting them on. Since commoners are frequently struck with a need to dress akin to their favorite celebrities, scoring wholesale sunglasses often worn by the in crowd allows them to present an attractive package without inflicting too much of a punishment to their finances. Funnily enough, these eyewear seem to function well in places of less-lit conditions as many an A crowd seem to brandish dark glasses whilst out of a night of clubbing or walk on the red carpet. Perhaps the type of lens allows sufficient light to penetrate without exposing the identity of its wearer. Fact or fiction, this certainly makes the annals of things done for the sake of fashion.

Although the terminology of wholesale fashion sunglasses may imply cheap fakes, a learned shopper should be able to work out which is which through experience and some careful scrutiny. Often times, prices are reduced to make way for new seasonal releases. One not minding a back seat on the fashion train can do quite well without a splurge.

Scottish Clothing – Traditional Dress

Traditional Scottish clothing is characterised by the appearance of tartan or plaid patterns in some form. Tartan is a pattern consisting of criss-crossed horizontal and vertical bands in multiple colours. Originally it was made from woven cloth, but now additional materials are also used.

Until the middle of the 19th century, highland tartans were associated with regions or districts, rather than by any specific clan or family. This was due to the fact that the designs were produced by local weavers, with a limited range of local dyes and for local tastes.

Male Scottish dress includes a kilt or trews, sporrans and gillie brogues.

The kilt is a knee-length skirt with pleats at the rear. It was first worn in the 16th century, by men and boys in the Scottish Highlands. It is typically made from one piece of fabric that is wrapped around and fastened at the side.

Since the 19th century, it has been associated with the wider culture of Scotland in general, or with Celtic – and more specifically Gaelic – heritage further afield.

Today, the Scottish kilt is most frequently worn on formal occasions or at Highland games and sports events. It has, however, all been adapted for more mainstream fashion, and can be seen on catwalks across the globe, worn by Scottish and non-Scottish fans alike.

The sporran is made of leather or fur, and serves as a wallet and container for any other necessary personal items, as the traditional Scottish kilt does not have pockets.

In medieval times, it would have been attached to the belt. Today, it generally hangs just below the belt buckle on a chain, but can be turned around the waist, to let it hang on the hip in a more casual and convenient position.

Gillie brogues are traditional thick-soled shoes, with no tongues and long laces. The laces are secured by wrapping them around the ankles then tied. The shoes deliberately lack tongues, so the wearer’s feet can dry more quickly in typically damp Scottish weather.

The Gillie brogue is named after the Gillie, the traditional Scottish gamekeeper and outdoorsman.

Traditionally, women and girls didnt wear kilts, but sometimes wore ankle-length plaid skirts. In the absence of this, or in addition, a tartan sash or shawl may also be worn to indicate clan affiliation.

Female dress also includes gillie shoes that are tied on the same way as their male counterparts, but they tend to have thin soles for indoor wear and dancing.

Women may also wear dress tartans, which have white threads woven into the patterns. The light colour of this fabric was a status symbol. It was used to demonstrate prosperity, because the wearer could wear the tartan without fear of it being soiled.

White tartan was also worn to social events as a sign of peace and harmony – indicating it would not be stained by bloodshed.
