Choosing Basketball Shoes What Counts Most for Todays Buyers

People vary in their top choices for the coolest basketball shoes. What may be nice, great basketball shoes for some people may be unsuitable for others. In any case, most basketball shoes inspired by legendary basketball players have been around for years and have become household names. Tastes definitely vary when it comes to choosing basketball shoes. A classic color combination is white with black patent leather. Others dig black and red, but only if the basketball shoes bear their favorite brand and model. Yet for many, classic black is a highly preferred option.

In terms of features, most sneaker lovers who play basketball choose shoes that provide solid ankle support and cushioning when theyre making quick side-to-side movements and high jumps. Theres a wide range of basketball shoe buyers whose purchasing decisions may be hinged on different factors. On one end of the spectrum are the seasoned players who desire maximum cushioning and stability. Fashion Stylist’s Tips On How To Dress For Work

Dressing for work can be daunting. So we went to Manhattans most sought after image consultant, Lori Silverstein for her advice on how to power dress. Lori offers her exclusive roster of private clients, many of which are high power executives advice on their personal appearance, image, grooming and wardrobe. I believe the best strategy for women dressing in todays work environment is to embrace a tailored silhouette which is feminine, classic and clean and modeled on the European approach to dressing, says Lori. We sat down with her to get her fabulous tips on how to dress for work in style.

lori-silverstein.jpgWhat are some of the essential items a woman should own in her work wardrobe?

I strongly encourage my clients to invest in classic but stylish pieces. Basic items in the fall wardrobe should include: streamlined cashmere coats which fall right at the knee and are perfect for skirts, dresses and trousers; pencil skirts in beautiful wools and cashmere or cashmere blends; fitted blazers with narrow shoulders with a cinched or defined waist; cashmere sweaters; beautifully tailored trousers and pantsuits with a well proportioned leg, paired with a beautiful silk blouse; and tailored shift dresses (both sleeveless and with sleeves) that follow the contours but are not too form fitting. Good fabrics are key and contribute to a rich, elegant and timeless look.

What types of accessories should a woman opt for when dressing for the office?

I believe accessories complete and enhance a look, and a good shoe, handbag, belt, scarf and jewelry are essential.

Shoes
For the work environment, I love a kitten heel or a 2-3 inch heel, and prefer a good classic pump with a bit of twist, as well as a sling back. My favorite shoe designers who have the perfect pump and sling are Manolo Blahnik and Christian Louboutin. The shoes are beautiful, sleek, classic and subtly sexy. They are absolutely worth every penny of the investment. A good suede or leather boot with a narrow toe box and a 2-3 inch heel is also beautiful and classic.

Handbags
Handbags you can never go wrong with the Prada leather tote which comes in a few basic colors such as black, brown and tan, and holds enough items without being oversized and cumbersome. I also love the Chanel classic handbag and tote.

Belts and Scarves
For belts, I steer my clients towards a black, chocolate brown or rich tan belt, preferably in leather or skin and for scarves I favor Hermes. They have so many wonderful designs and colors to choose from, and there are so many flattering ways to tie the scarves that will make every woman look chic, stylish and pulled together.

Jewlery
When it comes to jewelry, I emphasize that simple is best. For earrings, diamond studs or larger classic pearl studs look beautiful and there are some great copies out there that could fool anyone! Depending on the neckline, a scarf could look great, or perhaps a nice pendant or a pearl and gold necklace which is long enough to wrap a few times around the neck and sits up by the collar bone. I do like enamel bracelets (my favorites are designed by Hermes and come in different widths, design motifs and colors) and gold or silver link bracelets with a fob closure. I do stress that one thing to avoid at all costs is wearing large dangling earrings as well as glittery and over-sized pieces. Simplicity is key and contributes to a very polished and stylish look.

When it comes to hair and makeup, what works?
Regarding hair and makeup, the overall look should be neat, polished, well groomed and not overdone. I favor a soft palette for makeup. The first step is to ensure that one takes good care of their skin by using good products diligently (I love Biologique Recherche, La Prairie and Clarks Botanicals) and visiting an excellent facialist. My favorite facialist is Natalie at Yasmine Djerradine. A good, light foundation is important (such as Armani Face Fabric or the Fluid Sheer Foundation, or the new Guerlain Fundation) and a soft, neutral eye (mascara and lightly lined upper lid) combined with a soft cheek blush (the best colors are by Chanel) and a soft lip (Chanel lipsticks and glosses have the prettiest colors). Hair should be worn loose either straight or in soft waves, or held back in chic low ponytail or soft chignon. I strongly discourage hairstyles which are very exaggerated or messy. Everything should be soft and feminineno overpowering colors or heavy makeup application.

What are some things to keep in mind in terms of dress code for work?
Overall, when dressing for work, I advise my clients to dress in a clean, tailored and polished fashion that is very stylish and flattering. I discourage them from dressing in fashion trends that will detract from a polished look, and look inappropriate for the office. It is important not to wear anything that does not fit well and having access to a good tailor is essential to ensure that each piece fits perfectly. Another item to bear in mind is not to wear anything that is too short, too tight, too low cut, too clingy or too bright, glittery or overly patterned. Femininity is key. Lastly, its extremely important to be respected at work by clients and colleagues and a beautifully polished look will keep you on the right track!

Match Your Tie To Your Suit

When we tell you that matching your tie with the rest of your outfit is not a rocket science, we are dead serious. Think of the last science fiction flick that you saw. Did any of the scientists have any fashion sense?

That is not to say that matching a tie needs to be overly difficult. In fact, the problem is usually just that matching a tie is so simple, most people simply over look it. We want to start with two basic vocabulary words, match and coordinate. When you match two colors together, they will be duplicates such as red matches red. That said, red and burgundy will not always match, but red and red will. When you coordinate two colors together, they will be complimentary. Shades of yellow coordinate with blue. This same principle holds true for styles, patterns, and materials. Matching and coordinating balance each other to make the perfect wardrobe.

Unless you are a tie matcher extraordinaire, chances are that you generally do not see the perfect tie and try to build your entire wardrobe around a ten, twenty, or forty dollar strip of silk. For practical purposes in both finance and fashion, it makes sense to start with the largest piece and work backwards. That means starting with your suit, coordinating a shirt with your suit, and then finding a tie to fit them both. Once you have that method in mind, you are ready to start matching your ties to every thing else.

Chances are that you are intelligent enough to tell when some thing does not match or coordinate. A deep purple shirt with a black suit and a metallic blue tie, fail both of our important vocabulary words. Since you are not likely to make that mistake, we will warn you against the real danger of over complicating. You may start to get the hang of tie matching when you are done reading, but do not go to extremes. Decide what it is that requires you to wear a tie and determine how you want to be perceived as classy, elegant, gentlemanly, conservative, edgy, or stylish?

Keep your chosen words in mind and keep your eyes open as you start to shop. You are smart enough to know that hot pink is probably more stylish than conservative, and that straight black is more elegant than edgy. When it comes to patterns, do not over kill any thing. The first is the solid pattern. Building off of that, you have pin stripes, and then stripes, checkered patterns, and plaid. Advanced tie matchers are able to take any of these and make some thing amazing. For you, we will boil things down to a few simple reminders.

The first is matching a solid shirt and a patterned tie. Generally, the tie ought to be darker than the shirt. With that said, the fore ground should include the same color as the shirt to help accent it. This is the conservative style. If you want to aim for some thing a little edgier in your style, try coordinating a lighter tie with a dark shirt. Remember, though, lime green and dark pink still do not coordinate, unless you want to look like a watermelon.

Next, try matching a solid tie with a patterned shirt. Hold your shirt at a distance, whether striped, plaid, or checkered, and take note of one of the colors of the pattern. If you pick a less noticeable color and find a solid tie that matches, you look fashion conscious. If you pick a more noticeable color and find a matching tie, that is still good and you will pass inspection.

In your outfit, use a maximum of two of any thing, except for plaid. If you have a striped suit and shirt, do not get a striped tie. You will look like a candy cane. Same for checkered patterns. Be sure that there is enough contrast in each matching pattern, though, to emphasize your visual appeal. Pin stripes on a suit and on a shirt are no good, if the shirt is thickly striped, you are set to go. When in doubt, it is better to keep the patterns separated. A striped suit will coordinate with a striped tie. Keep the shirt simple. You do not want people to get dizzy. Big contrasts little. Match on the small details and coordinate on the big ones.

Party Dresses For Upscale Engagements

Inconsiderate men often complain that women take too long to get ready for a night out. But of course that is the case. The guys need only slip on a suit, while the girls have to do their hair, apply their makeup and find the right dress. One reason women sometimes struggle when it comes to the dress is that they are not sure what is expected of them. When attending a social event, for instance, there is often a dress code. Let us take a moment to review them.

Black Tie

A black tie affair is the most formal social gathering. Men are expected to wear tuxedos, while women can choose between cocktail dresses, formal gowns or long dresses. There are also white tie affairs, which are just as formal. The only difference is that the men wear white bowties instead of black ones.

Creative Black Tie

A creative black tie invite gives guests the option of dressing down a bit. Men can wear black suits instead of tuxedos and women can wear shorter dresses or evening separates.

Semi-Formal

As the name implies, guests are not expected dress up for semi-formal affairs. Dinner or cocktail parties with close friends and acquaintances are generally semi-formal. Men should wear dark suits and women can wear cocktail or party dresses. Professional women sometimes wear dressy suits to semi-formal events.

Business Formal

The dress code for business formal is the same as semi-formal for the guys, but the girls are expected to dress in tailored suits or long dresses.

Cocktail Attire

The standard cocktail party doesnt have a well-defined dress code. The guys usually dress in dark suits and the women wear party dresses.

Informal

When an invitation calls for a casual dress code, it often means that men should wear a coat and tie and women should wear shorter dresses. More often than not, casual affairs are held during the warmer months when gowns or formalwear would be terribly uncomfortable.

Because the dress code for the girls is more complicated, it requires further examination. One of the most confusing things about eveningwear for women is the rather broad definitions. Everyone knows, for example, what a tuxedo is. But what about a cocktail dress, an evening gown or a party dress?

Once again, these dresses are defined by the formality of the event. The most formal dress is the evening gown. The difference between the gown and the other two is that it is longer and that it is often made of heavier, more luxurious and expensive fabrics. An evening gown is generally made of satin, silk, velvet or chiffon. Its hemline can range from tea length and ballerina to full-length gowns. Evening gowns are far more accessible than ball gowns, since they are available in any silhouette, including A-line, trumpet, sheath, empire and mermaid. They may have halters, straps or sleeves. Evening gowns are worn at black tie and white tie events, while ball gowns are obviously only worn to balls.

Cocktail dresses were created specifically for semi-formal affairs. The length of the dress varies widely. Some cocktail dresses are rather revealing, with a hemline that falls just above the knees and others drop all the way to the ankles. The most common length for a semi-formal dress is called tea length, which about two inches above the ankles. Ballerina length dresses are a little longer, as they actually reach the ankles.

Shorter cocktail dresses are often seen at upscale clubs or at more casual get-togethers. These dresses were known as late afternoon numbers before cocktail parties became all the rage in the 1950s. They were also called early evening wear, since women would often wear them out to dinner or to a local speakeasy or salon.

What then is a party dress? Well, a party dress can be any of the aforementioned. Cocktail dresses, evening and ball gowns are all officially party dresses. Some are worn to formal parties, while others are worn to semi-formal and casual affairs.

Modern Styles

The little black dress (LBD) is arguably the most popular party dress in the history of fashion. Created by world famous fashion designer Gabrielle Coco Chanel in the 1920s, the LBD is the quintessential cocktail dress. It is flirty, fun and affordable. Because of its elegant simplicity, the little black dress is perfect for any semi-formal occasion.

One-shoulder dresses toe the line between semi-formal and formal dresses. Depending on the hemline and the material, they may be a bit of both. The style is quite popular with younger women who want to show a bit of skin in a reserved and elegant way.

Beaded cocktail dresses can be worn by women of all ages. Though they are undoubtedly on the casual side, they are quite comfortable and flattering for most figures. The beaded dress is actually quite popular for less formal wedding ceremonies.

At the end of the day, party dresses should be fun. As important as dress codes may be, they should never get in the way your enjoyment. Its a party, after all.
